The Milwaukee Brewers made their one-year deal with right-hander Julio Teheran official Thursday, making room for him by optioning reliever Jake Cousins to Triple-A Nashville.

Teheran, an All-Star with Atlanta in 2014 and ‘16, hasn’t pitched in the majors since appearing in one game with the Detroit Tigers in 2021. He’ll start Milwaukee’s series opener Thursday against San Francisco.

Teheran recently opted out of a minor-league deal with San Diego, where he recorded a 5.63 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 16 walks in eight Triple-A starts.

Cousins has appeared in seven games for the Brewers, including one inning Wednesday in the 4-0 win over Houston. He’s gone 8 1/3 innings allowing three runs on seven hits with eight walks and seven strikeouts.

Milwaukee currently has eight pitchers shelved: Jason Alexander, Aaron Ashby, J.B. Bukauskas, Matt Bush, Eric Lauer, Wade Miley, Brandon Woodruff and Justin Wilson.
