Minor-league baseball is back! With games back on in 2021 every Thursday for the rest of the season, Bally Sports Wisconsin will take a closer look at some specific young players in the Milwaukee Brewers’ farm system -- as well as noting others who might be stepping up -- measuring, highlighting and evaluating their progress.

This is the 9th edition of the 2021 Young Brewers Tracker.

Aaron Ashby, SP (age 22/Triple-A)

Last week: 2 games (1 start), 0-1, 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 6 K

Season: 17 games (8 starts), 5-3, 5.26 ERA, 49 2/3 IP, 48 H, 4 HR, 28 BB, 72 K, .246 OBA, 1.53 WHIP.

Notable: After making back-to-back starts (going four and three innings, respectively), Ashby was back in the bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings July 21.

Joe Gray Jr., OF (age 21/High-A)

Last week: 6 games, 20 AB, 6 H, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB, 3 BB, 8 K, .300 BA

Season (High-A): 13 games, 43 AB, .209 BA, .327 OBP, .326 SLG, .652 OPS, 2 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 8 R, 6 RBI, 4 SB, 8 BB, 18 K.

Season (Low-A): 51 games, 190 AB, .289 BA, .407 OBP, .632 SLG, 1.039 OPS, 15 2B, 7 3B, 12 HR, 40 R, 54 RBI, 12 SB, 34 BB, 64 K.

Notable: Gray is starting to heat up a bit in his new home, owning a hit in four straight games (5-for-14) – collecting a pair July 21 – and in five of his last six.

Tristan Lutz, OF (age 22/Double-A)

Last week: DNP

Season: 45 games, 173 AB, .208 BA, .284 OBP, .399 SLG, .682 OPS, 10 2B, 1 3B, 7 HR, 22 R, 27 RBI, 2 SB, 14 BB, 63 K.

Notable: Lutz was placed on the injured list July 2.

Garrett Mitchell, OF (age 22/Double-A)

Last week (Double-A): 6 games, 22 AB, 5 H, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB, 5 BB, 5 K, .227 BA

Season (Double-A): 12 games, 48 AB, .188 BA, .291 OBP, .620 SLG, 1.124 OPS, 5 2B, 2 3B, 5 HR, 33 R, 20 RBI, 12 SB, 27 BB, 30 K.

Season (Single-A): 28 games, 92 AB, .359 BA, .504 OBP, .620 SLG, 1.124 OPS, 5 2B, 2 3B, 5 HR, 33 R, 20 RBI, 12 SB, 27 BB, 30 K.

Notable: Mitchell finished the week on a four-game hit streak, collecting a pair of hits at Mississippi on July 21.

Ethan Small, SP (age 24/Triple-A)

Last week: DNP

Season (Triple-A): 3 games (3 starts), 1-0, 1.23 ERA, 14 2/3 IP, 12 H, 0 HR, 9 BB, 6 K, .221 OBA, 1.43 WHIP.

Season (Double-A): 8 games (8 starts), 2-2, 1.96 ERA, 41 1/3 IP, 26 H, 1 HR, 21 BB, 67 K, .195 OBA, 1.14 WHIP.

Notable: Small was shut down after his appearance in the Futures Game due to a strained tendon in his left middle finger. He’s expected to be out three weeks.

Brice Turang, SS (age 22/Double-A)

Last week: 5 games, 23 AB, 7 H, 2 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB, 0 BB, 3 K, .304 BA

Season: 62 games, 253 AB, .277 BA, .333 OBP, .387 SLG, .721 OPS, 13 2B, 3 3B, 3 HR, 34 R, 31 RBI, 10 SB, 22 BB, 43 K.

Notable: Turang has hit in five straight contests which includes two-hit games on July 15 and 21. Interestingly, Turang, noted for his good eye, hasn’t walked since July 6.

Freddy Zamora, SS (age 22/Low-A)

Last week: 7 games, 30 AB, 7 H, 1 HR, 6 R, 3 RBI, 0 SB, 3 BB, 9 K, .233 BA

Season: 45 games, 173 AB, .237 BA, .356 OBP, .318 SLG, .674 OPS, 5 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 33 R, 20 RBI, 6 SB, 28 BB, 43 K.

Notable: Zamora had the first three-hit game of his pro career July 18.

Other notes: Biloxi 1B Chad Spanberger had quite the game July 21. He went 5-for-6 with three home runs, four runs and nine RBI. He crushed the Shuckers record for RBI in game – previously it was six – while tying franchise highs for hits and homers. Spanberger, who was acquired from Toronto in November 2019 for Chase Anderson, added another homer and RBI in the three other games he played last week. … Biloxi C/3B David Fry (7th round, 2018) was 9-for-18 last week with three doubles, a triple, home run, six runs and five RBI. … Wisconsin RHP Taylor Floyd (10th round, 2019) fanned seven in 2 1/3 scoreless innings. He owns a 2.52 ERA, .195 OBA and 1.09 WHIP with 51 K in 35.2 IP. … Timber Rattlers SS Hayden Cantrelle (5th round, 2020) went 8-for-19 (.421) with a pair of doubles and a homer. … Carolina OF Ernesto Martinez had the fifth cycle in Mudcats history – and first since 2014 -- July 18. Overall last week he was 10-for-28 (.357) with three doubles, two triples, two homers, eight runs and 10 RBI. … C Mario Feliciano, sidelined since May 21, is in Arizona on a rehab assignment. He went 3-for-8 in his first two games with the Brewers Gold team.
