Milwaukee pitchers had no answer for Kansas City hitters in a Cactus League game Saturday.

The Brewers were rattled early, with starter Eric Lauer surrendering a walk, and five hits and runs across 2 1/3 innings in a 12-2 loss to the Royals. Lauer struck out three, for what it’s worth.

It didn’t help that Milwaukee’s bats were mostly quiet. The Brewers managed one run over the first five innings, and six total hits. A Mike Brosseau homer, his fourth this spring, in the sixth made it 8-2.

Elsewhere, newcomer Jesse Winker went 1-for-1 with a walk and run scored in two plate appearances.

On the mound, 10 pitchers, including Lauer, allowed 14 hits and six free passes.

Milwaukee plays its next game of spring training at 3 p.m. Sunday against the Cubs.
