The first three innings flew by for Minnesota starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez on Saturday. After that, the Twins staff, including Sanchez, had trouble recording outs eventually leading to a 7-4 loss against Pittsburgh.
Twins outfielder Trevor Larnach launched a home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Minnesota up 1-0. In the bottom of the frame Sanchez yielded three runs and was pulled after 3 2/3 innings of work.
Relief pitchers Brock Stewart, Trevor Megill and Cole Sands all yielded runs as well as the Pirates made the most of their opportunities. Stewart's ERA ballooned to 7.56 during the spring while Megill's spiked up to 10.80.
Matt Wallner, Jose Miranda and Brooks Lee all collected RBI for Minnesota in the loss.
