The Minnesota Twins added a fresh arm to their bullpen Thursday, recalling Devin Smeltzer from Triple-A St. Paul and sending down Lewis Thorpe.

Smeltzer has made one relief appearance for the Twins in 2021, allowing one unearned run on one hit in 4 2/3 innings in Minnesota’s 6-2 loss to Pittsburgh on April 24.

After a rough 2020 season -- 6.75 ERA in 16 innings on the mound – Smeltzer is looking to get back to his 2019 form, when he logged a 2-2 record, 3.86 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 49 innings as a rookie.

Thorpe got the start Wednesday in the Twins’ 3-1 loss to Texas and allowed three runs on five hits and one walk in five innings of work. He fanned two batters.

Minnesota wraps up its four-game series with the Rangers on Thursday afternoon. Tune in to Bally Sports North at 11:30 a.m. for “Twins Live.”
