The Minnesota Twins added six players to their 40-man roster and designated Willians Astudillo and left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes for assignment Friday.

Right-handed pitchers Blayne Enlow, Cole Sands, Chris Vallimont and Josh Winder, and infielders Royce Lewis and Jose Miranda were added to Minnesota’s 40-man roster.

Additionally, the Twins outrighted left-hander Devin Smeltzer and outfielder Kyle Garlick to Triple-A, and outfielder Jake Cave was signed to a major-league contract.

Astudillo was a fan favorite with the Twins since debuting in 2018. The 5-foot-9 utility player appeared in 167 games for Minnesota and batted .270/.295/.406 with 15 home runs and 66 RBI. Astudillo almost always made contact at the plate, as he recorded 10 walks and 25 strikeouts in 533 plate appearances.

Barnes made his big-league debut in 2021 and surrendered 25 earned runs in 38 innings (5.92 ERA).

Enlow, a third-round pick in 2017, logged a 1.84 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings last season before undergoing Tommy John surgery in June.

Sands went 4-2 with a 2.46 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 19 games (18 starts) for Double-A Wichita in 2021.

Vallimont spent time with High-A Fort Myers and Double-A Wichita in 2021 and registered a 5-7 record with a 5.84 ERA. He ranked second among all Twins farmhands in strikeouts and starts, and was ninth in innings pitched.

Winder pitched for both Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Pauland tallied a 2.63 ERA, 13 walks, 80 strikeouts, a .211 opponent batting average and a 0.94 WHIP in 14 starts.

Lewis, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 draft, missed the entire 2021 campaign after tearing his right ACL at the start of spring training. In 2019, he batted .236 with 26 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 49 RBI, 73 runs scored and 22 stolen bases in 127 games.

Miranda was named the Twins’ Minor League Player of the Year in 2021 after hitting .344 (184-for-535) with 32 doubles, 30 home runs, 94 RBI, 97 runs scored and a .973 OPS in 127 games for Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul.

Minnesota’s 40-man roster is now full with 23 pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders and seven outfielders.
