The New Orleans Saints selected Minnesota Gophers safety Jordan Howden with the 146th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft Saturday.

A fifth-year senior, Howden was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by the media in 2022 and was invited to the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Howden played in 59 games for the Gophers, starting 49, recording 240 tackles, 24 passes defensed, 5.5 sacks and four interceptions.

In 2022, Howden set highs in tackles (58), PD (7), TFL (3.5) and INT (2).

At the NFL combine, Howden ran a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash.

Howden will look to break camp with New Orleans, which has safeties Tyrann Mathieu, Marcus Maye and Jonathan Abram on its roster, among others.
