Minnesota’s Jamison Battle and Payton Willis were named All-Big Ten honorable mention Tuesday as voted on by conference coaches and media members.
Battle, a transfer forward who spent two seasons at George Washington, led the Gophers in points (17.4) and rebounds (6.3) per game. A Robbinsdale, Minn., native, Battle shot 45.1% from the field and 36.5% from deep in 28 contests.
Willis, another transfer who returned to play under first-year coach Ben Johnson after spending one season at College of Charleston – Willis spent two years at Minnesota (2018-20) after playing his first two seasons at Vanderbilt – closely trailed Battle in points per game (16.1) and led the team in assists per game (4.4). He shot 48.3% overall and 43.1% behind the arc on the season.
Battle, Willis and the No. 14 seed Gophers will take aim at upsetting No. 11 Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten tournament on Wednesday. Minnesota ended its regular season on a four-game skid.
