It's official.

After much speculation, Kings coach Todd McLellan confirmed that 18-year-old Quinton Byfield will make his NHL debut tonight vs. Anaheim. Byfield was added to the team's taxi squad on Monday, which fueled talk that a debut for the talented youngster was not too far off.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft spent most of his time with the AHL-affiliate Ontario Reign this season and impressed. In 30 games, Byfield registered eight goals and 20 points.

"I'm going to call his number and let him play," McLellan said this morning. "We're not playing him to hide him. We're playing him to let him experience things so he should be able to handle a regular shift. We expect him to."

Byfield took part in the morning skate on a line with Trevor Moore and Adrian Kempe, so expect to see the center on the third line with them tonight against the Ducks.

Our coverage of Byfield's debut on Bally Sports West begins at 6:30 PM with LA Kings Live. Puck drop between the Kings & Ducks is slated for 7:00 PM.
