The St. Louis Cardinals added some depth to their pitching staff on Sunday, acquiring right-hander T.J. Zeuch from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations. Zeuch had been designated for assignment by Toronto on July 20.

Zeuch was immediately optioned to Triple-A Memphis.

The Blue Jays selected Zeuch, 25, out of the University of Pittsburgh in the first round of the 2016 draft. Zeuch, one of the biggest pitchers in the majors at 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds, makes heavy use of a sinker that has averaged 93.5 mph this season, per Baseball Savant.

Zeuch has made five major league appearances (three starts) this season and has a 6.60 ERA with a .323 opponent batting average, eight strikeouts and nine walks in 15 innings. He was very impressive over a small sample for the Blue Jays during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, posting a 1.59 ERA with a .209 opponent average over 11.1 frames.
