The day after ascending to first place in the Western Conference, Sporting Kansas City has added a midfielder with six seasons of experience in the Italian Serie A.

Sporting Kansas City, which moved atop the standings with a 4-1 win on the road over Los Angeles FC, has signed Jose Mauri, a 25-year-old who holds dual citizenship in Argentina, where he was born, and Italy, where he has family ancestry and played extensively.

Mauri's contract runs through the 2022 season with an option for 2023. He will occupy an international spot on Sporting's roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 visa.

Mauri, who competed for Parma, Empoli and European giants AC Milan from 2013-19, most recently played for Argentine Primera Division club Talleres de Cordoba the last two seasons.
