The Kansas City Royals placed relief pitcher Joel Payamps on the 10-day IL and recalled reliever Scott Blewett from Triple-A on Saturday.
Payamps was acquired by the Royals earlier this season on July 22 from the Toronto Blue Jays. The 27-year-old righty has appeared in nine games, posting a 4.66 ERA and nine strikeouts. Payamps injury was non-disclosed.
Blewett will make his return to the Royals' roster for the first time in nearly a year. Last season, the 25-year-old reliever made just two appearances in his first stint in the big leagues.
Blewett has spent most of 2021 with the Omaha Storm Chasers and he owns a 6.42 ERA with 59 strikeouts over 61.2 innings of work.
