Mark Melancon was flat-out dominant in his first month in a Padres uniform, and he has been awarded for it by Major League Baseball.

On Monday, the league announced Melancon as the National League's Reliever of the Month for the month of April. The 36-year-old right-hander was a perfect 9-for-9 in save opportunities in the season's first month, allowing just a single earned run across 13 frames (0.69 ERA). Opposing batters are hitting just .095 off Melancon, whose WHIP sits at a meager 0.38.

Melancon's consistency out of the 'pen has been much-needed for a pitching staff that has been decimated by injuries in the early going.

His nine saves currently lead all of Major League Baseball.

Catch Melancon & the Padres tonight as they open up a three-game set at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates! Coverage begins with Padres LIVE at 6:30 PM on Bally Sports San Diego and the Bally Sports App.
