Each week, the Noise highlights under-started names who he believes are destined to torch the competition. To qualify, each player must be started in fewer than 60% of Yahoo leagues. Speaking as an accountability advocate, I will post results, whether genius or moronic, the following week. Scoring thresholds in .5 PPR format are — QB: 18 fantasy points, RB: 12 fantasy points (10 for shockers), WR: 11 fantasy points, TE: 10 fantasy points.

Chris Godwin, WR, Buccaneers

44% $5,900 vs. Falcons Bucs -9.5 47

Tom Brady may have regretted his decision to return for his 1,000th season in the league, but with Mike Evans, Julio Jones and Godwin back in pads, he showed his still viable secondary-swashbuckling skills last Sunday night in Tampa. The future slam-dunk Hall of Famer rebounded from early season woes largely in part to Godwin’s contested catch reliability. Once again living between the hashmarks, Godwin, reactivated after missing two games with a tender hamstring, lured an attention-grabbing 10 targets, catching seven passes for 59 yards. Registering 45 snaps (43 out of the slot) against the Chiefs, he’s destined to remain a TB12 favorite, barring a soft-tissue flare-up. Given his after-catch slipperiness (RB15 in YAC/reception) and sizable target share, Godwin, right now, is undervalued for gaming purposes.

The Falcons, unblemished versus the spread, may be covering machines, but they are far from that defending the pass. Collectively, they’ve given up 7.38 passing yards per attempt, five 11-plus fantasy point scores at WR and the sixth-most fantasy points to the position overall. Peering through the microscope, slot corner Dee Alford has conceded just a 60.2 passer rating, but he’s also yielded 16.6 yards per catch. Placing Atlanta defenders in a headlock in recent encounters, Godwin has averaged 7.0 receptions, 93.5 receiving yards and 1.0 touchdowns per game in the series’ last four matchups. With a game under his belt post-setback and resembling his usual chain-moving self, the slot man is on the verge of hitting the jackpot.

Fearless Forecast: 8 receptions, 72 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 16.2 fantasy points

In a development only Jets faithful and those in challenging fantasy leagues care about, Conklin, and not C.J. Uzomah, has emerged as the preferred enlarged option in Jersey. A PPR standout of sorts, Conklin has pulled 15.9% of the team's target share, grabbing 21 receptions for 190 yards and a TD. Most importantly, he didn’t skip a beat with the transition from Joe Flacco to Zach Wilson.

Last week in Pittsburgh, he caught a usable three passes (on five targets) for 52 yards. This Sunday, he’ll again be a likely staple. No franchise has yielded more receptions to tight ends than Miami (30). Overall, the Dolphins also have given up the ninth-most fantasy points to the position. Due to the week-to-week inconsistency at TE overall, outside of Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews, Conklin is an oasis in the vast statistical desert.

Fearless Forecast: 5 receptions, 42 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 13.7 fantasy points

Week 5 Bonus Flame

Robert Woods, WR, Titans

If the Titans play up to their capabilities, they should attack a bendable Commanders D with the energy of Bobby Wagner blasting a smoke-flare carrying protester. Similar to Carson Wentz’s execution on the other side of the ball, Washington’s efforts defending the pass have been abominable. This season, the Commanders have allowed 7.91 passing yards per attempt, five 10-plus fantasy point WRs and the second-most fantasy points to the position overall.

Without rookie Treylon Burks, Woods should see a noticeable uptick in targets, even in Tennessee’s Derrick Henry-featured offense. With Burks in uniform, Woods has notched a suitable 20.0% of the target share. Matching wits with Williams Jackson III, who’s given up 23.0 yards per catch and a 143.8 passer rating, the 10-year veteran is a sneaky impactful Week 5 wideout.

Fearless Forecast: 5 receptions, 56 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 14.1 fantasy points

Season record: 5-6

Last week: 1-2 (Noah Brown 7.6, Tyler Lockett 11.1, Cameron Brate 5.2)
