Each week, the Noise highlights under-started names who he believes are destined to torch the competition. To qualify, each player must be started in fewer than 60% of Yahoo leagues. Speaking as an accountability advocate, I will post results, whether genius or moronic, the following week. Scoring thresholds in .5 PPR format are — QB: 18 fantasy points, RB: 12 fantasy points (10 for shockers), WR: 11 fantasy points, TE: 10 fantasy points.

Rondale Moore, WR, Cardinals

45% $4,000 vs. Chiefs Chiefs -3.5 53.5

With DeAndre Hopkins serving a six-game suspension for PED use, A.J. Green looking roughly Jurassic-aged and Zach Ertz being questionable due to a lingering calf ailment, it’s surprising Moore didn’t experience an ADP inflation during the heart of the fantasy draft season. Remnant thoughts over a disappointing rookie campaign clearly dampened the outlook in investor minds. But assuming his undisclosed curtailment doesn’t impact his efforts against the Chiefs in Week 1, he has tremendous strike early appeal. As head coach Kliff Kingsbury stated last month, Moore is expected to be “more fully utilized across the field.” Simply, he’s too dynamic to keep under wraps. Most importantly, the path to opportunity is undoubtedly there.

Though he didn’t contribute much in the box score last season, Moore didn’t underwhelm in a couple of advanced analytic categories. He ranked a respectable WR28 and finished at an exceptional WR4 in YAC per reception (8.3). As advertised, when fed the rock, he gained abundant yards after the catch. In Week 1, it could be more of the same at a higher volume. Kansas City boasts a middle-of-the-road secondary. Though he’ll be shifted around, Moore's primary assignment, L’Jarius Snead, surrendered a 74.4 catch rate and 102.2 passer rating in coverage last fall. In a game with the highest-projected Week 1 total (53.5), Moore is a viable breakthrough candidate off the bat.

Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 51 receiving yards, 11 rushing yards, 1 touchdown, 14.2 fantasy points

Week 1 Bonus Flames

KJ Hamler, WR, Broncos

<1% $3,000 at Seahawks Broncos -6.5 44.5

Looking for a legitimate dark horse in deeper formats? Hamler is your huckleberry. Tim Patrick’s preseason injury automatically elevates the second-year wide receiver’s profile. Due to an ACL setback, Hamler played only three games in his rookie season, but after an encouraging August, he’s in position to become a Russell Wilson favorite. Locked into the slot, he, on occasion, could have Tyler Lockett-like tendencies. Expected to go toe-to-toe most often with former Dolphin Justin Coleman (No.106 PFF coverage rating in 2021), Hamler may soon be a highly sought-after fantasy free agent.

Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 53 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 13.2 fantasy points

David Njoku, TE, Browns

15% $3,900 at Panthers Panthers -1.5 41.5

The tight end's thunder stomp scoring celebration could immediately tip the Richter Scale in Fantasyland. Considering the opponent, with Baker Mayfield at the helm no less, it’s a distinct possibility. For the Browns, Amari Cooper and Njoku should emerge as breadwinners in targets this season. Yes, Cleveland will again stress the run with Jacoby Brissett scheduled to be at the controls for 11 games, but Mike Gesicki averaged 4.3 receptions and 46.8 yards per game with the elevated backup under center last fall in Miami. Unless Harrison Bryant eats significantly into his volume, Njoku, who signed a $56.8 million extension in May, could start off sizzling.

Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 56 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 13.6 fantasy points
