Each week, the Noise highlights under-started names who he believes are destined to torch the competition. To qualify, each player must be started in fewer than 60% of Yahoo leagues. Speaking as an accountability advocate, I will post results, whether genius or moronic, the following week. Scoring thresholds in .5 PPR format are — QB: 18 fantasy points, RB: 12 fantasy points (10 for shockers), WR: 11 fantasy points, TE: 10 fantasy points.

In a sign the demise of human civilization is imminent, the Marcus Mariota-led Falcons are in first place of the hilariously inept NFC South. The primary reason why the shocking development has occurred eight weeks into the regular season isn’t just Gisele’s split with Tom. No, it’s actually steeped in Atlanta’s run game, even without opening-week starter Cordarrelle Patterson.

Allgeier, the rookie from BYU, and former practice squader Caleb Huntley have done a marvelous job in offensive coordinator Dave Ragone’s conservative scheme (57.63 run percentage, No. 2 in the NFL). On roughly 45% of the opportunity share, Allgeier has manufactured three double-digit fantasy performances in his last five games. His 2.73 YAC per attempt and 10.7 missed tackle rate don’t exactly jumpstart the heart, but his 13-16 touch per game workload pushes him at least into flexy-sexy territory.

With six teams on the bye this week, Allgeier is RB2-worthy in 12-team and deeper leagues. The Chargers haven’t exactly dialed up the ohms defending the run. Through seven games, they’ve conceded a paltry 6.08 yards per carry, 156.4 total yards per game, 10 combined touchdowns and the third-most fantasy points per game to RBs. Due to Atlanta’s run commitment, above-average offensive line and his noteworthy workload, Allgeier is a bankable starter in challenging formats.

Fearless Forecast: 15 carries, 54 rushing yards, 2 receptions, 11 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 13.5 fantasy points

Week 9 Bonus Flames

REVENGE GAME! Once a tag-team partner of Aaron Jones, Williams will surely be motivated to perform against his former employer. Yes, the Lions have laughably underachieved this year, but gashing the Packers with repeated ground jabs is a winning formula. Past the regular-season midway point, Green Bay has yielded a fantasy-friendly 5.15 yards per carry and 119.6 rushing yards per game to RBs.

D’Andre Swift has returned but not to his formidable pre-injury role. As a result, Williams remains a 15-touch-per-game fixture, with many of those belly balls coming inside the red zone. With four games of two or more touchdowns scored this season, he could easily cross the goal line once again multiple times. The Pack’s gap assignment coverage is that sucky. Slide him into the FLEX or RB2 slots in 12-team leagues.

Fearless Forecast: 15 carries, 63 rushing yards, 1 touchdown, 1 reception, 6 receiving yards, 13.4 fantasy points

Wheelers and dealers. That’s what the Bears were in the days leading up to the trade deadline by sending defensive studs Robert Quinn and Roquan Smith packing in separate deals. With draft capital stockpiled and money freed, the front office should Scrooge McDuck and dive headfirst into a pool of gold coins come free agency. With David Montgomery and Herbert occasionally excelling, running back isn’t a position that needs to be addressed.

So far this season on close to 45% of the opportunity share, Herbert has recorded a top-15 line in .5 PPR, averaging 78.3 total yards on 13.9 touches per game. Also finding the end zone five times and tallying the fourth-highest YAC per attempt in the league, he has become quite the FLEX investment. Squaring off against a Miami front surrendering 115.9 total yards per game, 10 combined TDs and the ninth-most fantasy points to RBs, Herbert should be considered starter material in 12-team leagues.

Fearless Forecast: 10 carries, 46 rushing yards, 1 touchdown, 1 reception, 9 receiving yards, 13.0 fantasy points

Season record: 10-11

Last week: 2-1 (D’Onta Foreman 31.8, Michael Carter 8.1, Antonio Gibson 17.2)
