Less than two weeks after returning from a right shoulder impingement, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill is headed back to the injured list with a strained left hamstring.
O'Neill suffered the injury during the Cardinals' 6-4 loss to the Red Sox on Sunday. To take his place on the roster, the Cardinals recalled outfielder Lars Nootbaar from Triple-A Memphis.
O'Neill, who has won the NL Gold Glove in left field for each of the past two seasons and finished eighth in NL MVP voting last year, is batting .241/.292/.361 with four homers and 28 RBIs in 45 games this season. Brendan Donovan, Juan Yepez and Nootbaar are likely to soak up the starts in left field while he's injured. Corey Dickerson could also be an option at the position once he returns from a calf strain.
Nootbaar is hitting .140/.228/.240 with one homer and six RBIs in 22 major league games this season. He's hitting .222/.325/.476 in 17 games with Memphis.
