Cardinals place Gallegos on 15-day IL, recall Woodford

The St. Louis Cardinals placed RHP Giovanny Gallegos on the 15-day IL with right shoulder rotator cuff tendonitis and recalled RHP Jake Woodford on Monday.

In 56 appearances out of the bullpen for the Cardinals this season Gallegos went 2-4 with a 4.42 ERA in 55 innings and added 10 saves. The right-hander started the year strong but struggled to settle in at times in an overall down year for the Cardinals.

Woodford was placed on the 15-day IL on June 30 with a right shoulder strain and was activated and then optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Sept. 1. He has appeared in 12 games for the Cardinals this season, six of those being starts, and is 2-2 with a 5.67 ERA over 39.2 innings pitched.
