St. Louis Blues forward Alexei Toropchenko is expected to be out until December after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong announced on Friday that Toropchenko has been battling a nagging injury and elected for offseason surgery.
The 23-year-old Toropchenko made his NHL debut last season, scoring two goals in 28 games. He appeared in all 12 Blues playoff games, tallying two assists.
Toropchenko's injury adds offseason intrigue to the Blues' depth at the forward positions. NHL free agency officially opens on July 13 and David Perron, Tyler Bozak, Mackenzie MacEachern and James Neal are all unrestricted free agents, along with goaltenders Ville Husso and Charlie Lindgren and defenseman Nick Leddy.
