Adam Wainwright, who has received the COVID-19 vaccine, has been activated from the COVID-19 injured list and will start Monday night's series opener against the New York Mets at Busch Stadium.

Wainwright was placed on the list April 29 after coming in close contact with someone with the virus. After passing MLB protocols, he was removed from the list. The 39-year-old right-hander had been scheduled to start Sunday, so the ordeal set him back only one day. He is 0-3 with a 4.08 ERA in five starts this season.

In a corresponding move, the club optioned outfielder Austin Dean to Triple-A Memphis (AAA). Dean is batting .185 (5 for 27) with one home run and seven RBIs in 18 games this season. He has made four starts, and eleven of his 34 plate appearances have come as a pinch-hitter.
