Carlos Santana will be in the Kansas City Royals' starting lineup Friday night in Colorado after being reinstated from the 10-day injured list earlier in the day.

Santana has been out since May 2 with right ankle bursitis. He will return to the field as the designated hitter, batting fourth, rather than at his customary spot at first base.

Santana, like most of the Kansas City hitters, has struggled at the plate this season. He is batting .159 with one home run and six RBIs in 63 at-bats.

In a corresponding move, the Royals optioned catcher Sebastian Rivero to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Rivero started behind the plate Thursday in his sole appearance with the Royals during his call-up, flying out and drawing a walk before being replaced by fellow rookie MJ Melendez.
