The Kansas City Royals have recalled RHP Max Castillo from Triple-A Omaha to make his first appearance with the team in a start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday.

The Royals acquired the right-hander as part of the trade with the Blue Jays in exchange for Whit Merrifield on Aug. 2. The club then assigned Castillo to Triple-A Omaha.

Castillo had recently been optioned to the Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons ahead of the deadline trade, but in his time this season with Toronto he posted a 3.05 ERA in nine games and 20.2 innings of work.

Kansas City also reinstated Hunter Dozier from the paternity list, optioned Maikel Garcia to Omaha following Wednesday's game and designated RHP Joel Payamps for assignment.

Payamps was 2-3 on the season with a 3.16 ERA in 29 games and 42.2 innings for the Royals.
