The Kansas City Royals placed two players on the injured list Thursday and summoned two from Triple-A Omaha to replace them heading into their game Thursday night at the Minnesota Twins.
The injured players are left-handed reliever Amir Garrett and outfield Kyle Isbel. No injury designation was provided for either player.
Garrett is 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 16 games (13.2 innings) in his first season with the Royals. Isbel is batting .276 in 58 at-bats with the Royals this season and .250 in 20 at-bats with the Storm Chasers.
Filling Isbel's outfield slot on the active roster is Brewer Hicklen, who was selected from Omaha. This is his first time on a major league roster. He will make his big league debut Thursday against the Twins, playing center field and batting ninth.
Hicklen, 26, was a seventh-round draft pick by the Royals in 2017. He was hitting .266 with 18 extra-base hits (five homers), 24 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 42 games with the Storm Chasers.
Coleman, 25, was optioned to Omaha on Sunday and returns after making one appearance with the Storm Chasers, pitching one scoreless inning. Prior to his assignment he had pitched in 17 games with the Royals this season, going 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA and 21 strikeouts over 15.2 innings.
Coverage of the opener of the Royals-Twins series in Minnesota begins at 6 p.m. on Bally Sports Kansas City.
