The Kansas City Royals' offense could get a big boost on Friday with the return of outfielder Drew Waters, who was activated from the 10-day injured list prior to the first game of a weekend series with the Washington Nationals.

Utility player Nate Eaton, who is batting .058 with a .167 OPS in 24 major league games this season, was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday to clear the way for Waters' activation.

Waters, 24, did not play in any Cactus League games this spring after suffering an oblique strain during a workout in February. The switch-hitting outfielder has been getting up to speed over the last couple weeks during a rehab assignment with Omaha. In 13 games, he batted .327/.397/.635 with six doubles, two triples, two homers and six RBIs. He struck out 13 times in 52 at-bats but drew six walks.
