Franmil Reyes continued building on his stellar spring as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Oakland Athletics 2-0 in a Cactus League matchup at Surprise Stadium on Thursday.

Reyes, a 27-year-old designated hitter, has 106 home runs over five major league seasons, including a pair of 30-plus-homer campaigns. However, he's in Royals camp on a minor league deal this spring after struggling with the Guardians and Cubs in 2022. He went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI on Thursday, raising his batting average in Cactus League action to .429 and his OPS to 1.250.

Jackie Bradley Jr., another veteran outfielder who is Royals camp as a non-roster invitee, also had a standout day, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Catcher Freddy Fermin, who is making a strong push to make his first Opening Day roster, had a double to raise his spring batting average to .316 and his OPS to 1.041.

Seven Royals pitchers combined for a shutout, holding Oakland to five hits over nine innings. Starter Kris Bubic allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four over two frames. Ryan Weiss struck out five on two hits and a walk over two innings.

The Royals visit the Angels in Tempe on Friday. Jonathan Heasley is set to face Los Angeles lefty José Suarez.
